Background
Unknown to the Capellan Confederation and the Federated Suns, a battalion from the First Guards, the premier 'Mech unit of the Free Worlds League, had secretly landed on Menkalinan in November. They hoped to overwhelm the Capellan militia and seize Menkalinan from Chancellor Liao while his concentration was on the Davion invasion.
The battalion of heavy 'Mechs, under Force Commander Kisha Bavara, was doing just that when the Screaming Eagles dropped 30 kilometers to their south and east. Commander Bavara cursed the new complication, halted her battalion, and reported the new situation to her superiors on Berenson.
Neither the Federated Suns unit nor the Marik unit engaged in combat or discourse as the Screaming Eagles passed by. Tense and frustrated, the Eagles showed the Capellan forces no mercy and quickly broke the Capellan lines, routing them.
It was during the route that Force Commander Bavara received her new orders, to aid the Capellan defenders. Stunned, nonetheless she complied and soon the Capellan militia rallied as they watched the First Guards attack.
Pinned between two forces and threatened to be surrounded, Colonel Hokala had only one option, retreat north and hope to survive long enough for the Screaming Eagles to regroup outside the city of Carosasha…
